Specialist K9 Knotweed Detection
Japanese knotweed is a non-native invasive plant that can cause structural problems if growing close to buildings. The underground roots and rhizomes search for water and can clog drainage pipes. Once they've invaded pipes, the pressure caused as these roots expand can even crack pipes and joints causing extensive damage.
Mick and Mack are Fox Red Labrador Retrievers trained as specialist Japanese knotweed detection dogs in partnership with Environet UK.
Mic & Mac are brothers who have gone through RFA’s training centre together and have enjoyed a brotherly rivalry as they learnt their tradecraft. They both have quite different personalities, Mac is the more reserved of the brothers and likes to operate with a steady approach to searching, whereas Mick loves to run and likes a fast approach to conducting a survey. The two brothers complement each other well and due to the differing approaches to searching, provide our skilled handlers with various options when conducting a survey.
Both enjoy the company of others and adore showing the next generation how it’s done.
